BOO! 👻 Election, Canvassing Opportunities, November Meeting, & Other Updates

November Meeting pushed to 11/11 due to Election Day (11/4)

Hello all!

Hope everyone is doing well and gearing up for a festive Halloween weekend.

Just a quick reminder that we’re pushing our usual first-Tuesday schedule to accomodate Election Day! We will be doing another hybrid meeting in-person at the PSF Community Center at in Oak Square and via Zoom, at 6:30PM

Zoom details to follow, but feel free to add to your calendar here.

DON’T FORGET TO VOTE!

Probably preaching to the choir, but don’t let the absence of a real mayoral race make you forget to vote! Check your polling place here.

LAST MINUTE AT-LARGE CANVASSING OPPORTUNITY!

While we’re not making any official endorsements this cycle, we do have a request from some of our friends in PWRR (Westie/Rozzi) and JP Progressives. Two of their endorsees that are most at-risk of not making the cut, Marvin Mathelier and Henry Santana, are spending time in Allston-Brighton this weekend doing lit drops, events, etc.

So if you have the bandwidth and inclination, feel free to be in touch with their campaigns to see how you can help. Contact info for both campaigns:

Marvin Mathelier’s campaign manager is Alberto Morales, [email protected] or 857-488-6474.

Henry’s Santana’s campaign manager is Kevin L’Herrou — 561-252-3510

SIGNATURE COLLECTION CHECK-IN

I know some folks have been busy collecting signatures, please continue to do so! If you haven’t already sent me a count, feel free to update the team collecting signatures for Rent Control here. Every signature we get is one they don’t have to pay for! Help them plan by providing updates, and getting your sheets in before the deadline.

STEERING COMMITTEE SELECTION AND ORG STRUCTURE

This will be a major topic at the next meeting! Feel free to bring your opinions but please review some documentation to inform our discussion.

Great time to start thinking if you would like to nominate yourself for Steering Committee (if we even decide to call it that, but that’s an issue for the meeting!)

You can also make any updates and suggestions to the November Agenda here.

OTHER UPDATES

Lots going on in A-B this weekend! I will be bringing my signature sheets to the Food Fest at Harvard Stadium. Is it bad to turn in signatures with food stains? LETS FIND OUT.

Also a quick plug for Harvard’s Ed Portal - all A-B residents are eligible (they just ask for proof of residency) and I just snagged $5 tickets to an A.R.T. show, which is a steal! They offer a lot of other benefits as well.

Finally, as we are unfortunately poised to see SNAP funding evaporate starting tomorrow 😬, let’s share some local resources trying to step up and fill the need.

Callie just shared this great Mutual Aid resource from Indivisible in the group slack, which is a great primer.

And for hyper local resources, check out Liz Breadon’s Instagram post below:

That’s all for now! We’ll send out another quick reminder closer to the meeting.
